North America

North America Regional Priorities

IATA’s North America office is based in Washington, D.C. and manages IATA activities in the United States, Canada and Bermuda. The primary focus area is promoting IATA members’ interests before the U.S. and Canadian government’s executive and legislative branches.  However, as a regional office, IATA Washington also covers the full range of IATA issues in the region on behalf of its members.

Safety

  • Safety is our top priority.  We support member airlines on critical safety matters before the relevant federal regulatory authorities.
  • Support all IATA members to complete an IATA Operational Safety Audit by the end of 2008.
  • IOSA is a key tool to move the entire industry forward to the highest level of safety standards and best practices.

Simplifying the Business

Security

  • Follow the regulatory process on security issues dealing with aircraft, airports, and passengers.
  • Provide government officials with technical knowledge and access to aviation professionals in order to facilitate the regulatory process.
  • Support member airline interests before the U.S. Deparment of Homeland Security and the Transport Canada.

Cost reductions

  • Promote fuel savings through airlines operational efficiencies, new routes and infrastrucute enhancements.
  • Promote the inclusion of a user fee system in the FAA Reauthorisation Act.
  • Seek reduction in government crown rent at Canadian airports.
  • Eliminate U.S. taxes on international fuel uplift and on foreign pilots in the U.S.

Commercial

  • Provide aviation solutions to IATA members in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
